A luxury B&B on the scenic Tasmanian coast
For those keen to discover the magical beauty of Australia’s only island state and its breathtaking natural surrounds, Bellerive offers the perfect spot to explore it all. Peacefully located on the scenic Eastern shore, the charming village of Bellerive lies just five kilometres from the hub of Hobart.
Built in 1905 and positioned in the historic village heart, Bellerive House is a heritage-listed former gentleman’s residence lovingly restored and refurbished by owners and hosts Jacqueline and David Grant. Redesigned with exceptional attention to detail and a focus on personalised service, it opened its doors as a B&B in late 2005 and offers a perfect blend of contemporary comfort and luxurious accommodation.
Capturing idyllic views over the tranquil bay to Mount Wellington, Bellerive House is located moments from Bellerive Yacht Club and the River Derwent foreshore. Indulge your senses and your spirit of adventure with a host of fabulous neighbouring attractions. Take a tour of Port Arthur including the historic convict site, Tasman National Park and the Isle of the Dead, enjoy the pleasures of the Richmond wine region, shop for local crafts at lively Salamanca Place or jump on a river taxi to Hobart.
The interiors of Bellerive House showcase a superior level of craftsmanship and have been tastefully refurbished and decorated to offer an elegant and welcoming environment for guests. An eclectic yet understated mix of European and Australian antiques and Asian collectibles lend an air of refined grace to the accommodation.
There is a choice of three beautifully appointed guest rooms, each with a queen sized bed dressed in crisp white linen and soft goose-down duvets. The deluxe ensuites feature heated floors, plush white towels and bathrobes, and handcrafted Tasmanian toiletries. The ‘Bellerive’ is furnished in antique English pine furniture, while the aptly named ‘Derwent’ enjoys magical river views and the ‘Wellington’ soaks up a stunning vista of the majestic mountain.
The signature gourmet breakfasts are undoubtedly one of the highlights of Bellerive House. Guests are provided with a menu offering a tempting choice of cooked meals. Only the finest local ingredients are used, from locally grown berries and King Island yoghurt to organic sourdough bread and mouth watering Tasmanian salmon. ‘We like to make our guests feel special’, explains David. ‘Our breakfasts are rather indulgent and are cooked to order, catering to individual tastes and preferences. We also serve a range of homemade treats which guests can enjoy in their room or the lounge after their day.’
Indeed, the lounge is an inviting place to relax and unwind after a day’s adventuring. Guests can enjoy a glass of complimentary port while perusing the extensive library or warm themselves in the winter months by the roaring open fireplace. Alternatively, the courtyard garden offers an intimate setting to sit back and contemplate your day.
Perhaps best known for its international cricket ground, Bellerive is also popular with the boating set thanks to its calm waters and marina located at Bellerive Quay. The village itself has a unique charm, as well as a beautiful beach, and offers numerous cafés and fine restaurants with picturesque views.
Hosts David and Jacqueline are on hand to help with planning visits and excursions to local attractions, or recommend places to dine. They fully understand how important it is to be made welcome and comfortable after years spent working and travelling in South East Asia. Indulge yourself with a visit and relish the opportunity to discover the captivating beauty and inspiring surrounds of Tasmania.
